The aim of the project is the development of naturally established methodologies for modeling and forecasting strong storms and associated flooding phenomena. The approach concerns the adaptation of rain-runoff models to the peculiarities of the Greek hydroclimatic and geomorphological conditions, and on the one hand to the requirements of the recent European Framework Directive 2007/60/EC.

The project structure follows a holistic approach. In particular, starting from the collection of the necessary hydroclimatic, hydrometric and environmental-geographical data (an action on which the specific priority area gives special emphasis), a naturally established mathematical representation of the processes is attempted which is pilot tested. Achieving the various research and technological aspects of the project requires the collection, processing and analysis of a sufficient amount and good reliability of flood hydrology data.
