It consists of a study which included the Topographic Study to simulate the morphology of the Nestos River Valley and Delta, the Nestos Riverbed Delimitation Study for various values of flood discharges, as well as the maximum possible flood. The scope of the Delimitation Study concerns the control of the drainage capacity of the Nestos river bed, downstream of the Platanovrisi Dam and the estimation of the flood level and the extent of the Nestos river bed inundation in the cases of operation, both of the Generating Station Units and the Overflows, for various benefit values referred to flood return periods of 1:20, 1:100, 1:1,000, 1:10,000, as well as the maximum possible flood.
The aim of the project is: i) to determine, downstream of the Platanovrisi Dam and up to the mouth (Delta of the river), the inundation limits of the Nestos River bed, in the cases of operation of both the Generating Station Units and the Spillways, for various benefit prices referring to flood return periods of 1:20, 1:100, 1:1,000, 1:10,000, as well as the maximum possible flood (Scoping Study), ii) to update the Study of the effects of flood wave passage, from failure of existing Dams of the Nestos River (YS Thesauros and YS Platanovrisi) and new ones (YS Temenouis), downstream of the Dams, in the man-made and natural ecosystems of the area (Flood Wave Channeling Study). In particular, the Topographic works of the Nestos River were carried out in a length of 85 km, the Control of drainage and demarcation of the bed of the Nestos River, the Fracture Study using a three-dimensional flow analysis model and the Study of the channeling of the flood wave using a two-dimensional flow analysis model.
