Environmental
Environmental engineering has a profound impact on the world’s environmental problems. Environmental engineers identify environmental problems and develop effective ethical and socially responsible solutions to combat them. This field combines aspects of civil engineering such as project management, systems design, geotechnical and transport engineering, with aspects of chemical engineering and biological sciences.
Environmental engineers study the effect of technological advances on the environment, addressing local and worldwide environmental issues such as acid rain, global warming, ozone depletion, water pollution and air pollution from automobile exhausts and industrial sources. They evaluate hazardous-waste management systems to evaluate the severity of such hazards, advise on treatment and containment, and develop regulations to prevent mishaps.
Ag. Georgios – Thriasio
LIMITED LENGTH ~9.4KM
DIRECTED LENGTH~7.50KM
BUDGET OF PROJECTS UNDER STUDY: >€11,000,000
The object of the project was the design and study of settlement projects and the definition of demarcation lines of the Agios Georgios watercourse in the Eastern Thriasian Field.
The watercourse has been classified as of Special Environmental Interest (Government Gazette 281D/23-05-1993).
Objective of the project:
- safe channeling of flood flows to the estuary
- upgrading the natural environment of the watercourse from anthropogenic pressures
In the context of the Contract, a calculation was made in two-dimensional analysis (2D) conditions to determine the velocity profile in the proposed mixed settlement cross-section, in order to predict its erosion conditions, but also to better deal with elevations in bends (water level).
