ETME successfully completed the Site Acceptance Tests / Demonstration (SAT) of the USSPS Prototype Platform, Panoptis
A significant milestone in the development of the unmanned maritime surveillance platform, with tests in a real maritime environment and remote control from a Hellenic Navy Ashore Centre
Athens, 4 June 2026 – ETME successfully completed the Site Acceptance Tests / Demonstration (SAT) of the unmanned USSPS Prototype Platform, Panoptis, which is being developed in the framework of a European defence programme, with ETME acting as coordinator, design authority and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the naval systems.
The tests took place while the Prototype Platform was deployed at sea and focused on the demonstration of key capabilities related to remote control, maritime surveillance, real-time data reception and cooperation with unmanned assets.
As part of the demonstration, the remote control of the platform’s tactical payloads, such as radars and EO/IR systems, was performed through NAVAL Group’s dedicated C5ISTAR system, installed at a Hellenic Navy Ashore Centre, confirming the capability to generate a local Tactical Situational Awareness picture around the platform.
In parallel, the remote monitoring of the platform’s operational and structural condition was tested, as well as the real-time reception of environmental and operational data, including weather, wind, sea and self-protection systems data. The data are collected through the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), installed at the Ashore Centre, providing remote operators with a comprehensive picture of the platform’s operation and environment.
Particular emphasis was also placed on the cooperation with unmanned assets, through the remote control of a selected Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), able to fly from and around the platform in order to extend the platform’s surveillance range, transmitting the picture from its surveillance cameras in real time to the Ashore Centre.
The “Panoptis” platform has been designed as an unmanned semi-fixed maritime surveillance platform, aiming to support maritime surveillance missions, critical infrastructure protection, environmental data collection and the enhancement of operational awareness in a maritime environment.
The programme highlights the ability of the Greek defence and technology industry to contribute meaningfully to the development of complex, interoperable, high added-value solutions for European security and maritime surveillance. Beyond ETME, the multinational consortium of the project consists of the following companies and organisations: Applied Intelligence Analytics Limited, Cyprus Research and Innovation Center Ltd, Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas, Stichting Maritiem Research Instituut Nederland, Naval Group SA, Navantia S.A. The project was implemented in the framework of the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP), in cooperation with the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence.
